2Dissapointed
By Amazon Customer
I have several Cuisinart products and had good expectations for this. Because of that I did not keep the original box, big mistake! Coffee side worked well at first, but after a month of everyday use (My husband and I have our morning coffee) the carafe leaks around the lid when pouring. The hot water reservoir leaks water when turned on and did from the beginning. For a hundred dollar coffee pot from a company that generally produces high quality products it a BIG disappointment! If you buy this product test it completely before throwing away the box.

It’s a great coffeemaker. It works quickly, and is easy to program. The hot water feature is a great addition. Hot tea all day without firing up the stove!

5Cuisinart vs Keurig Costs
By ZenReader
We have been big Keurig users for years and have loved the ease of use but not loved the cost. With two of us drinking two mugs of coffee a day it worked out to $2 a day or 60 K-cups a month ($30 @ .50 a K-cup). We tried many types and like the Paul Newman Organic which we by in bulk from Amazon. I bought this brewer for parties, etc but decided to do an experiment to see what would be involved replacing the Keurig and associated cost. I use a gold mesh filter so there is no paper filters to mess with. If you use paper you would need to add .01 to .02 cents per cup.

I bought 1 lbs of ground Starbucks House Blend at Safeway for $8.99. It was the closest in taste and consistency to the Paul Newman Organic. I used 2 table spoons (not heaping) per mug (4 total to the basket with just a pinch extra). I used the mug I would drink out of to pour in the two mugs of water (and just a 1/4 of a mug extra). There is a measure on the side but its in cups and difficult to really get a gauge on early in the morning –I have found the mug approach easier to use. **
The speed this thing brews at is pretty amazing –in less than 3 minutes I have my two mugs of coffee. (My wife kept on K-cup-ing)

Using this method I got 37 mugs of coffee from a 1lb of ground Starbuck House Blend. Doing the math compared to the K-CUP this meant that it took 19 mugs to equal the K-cup and 18 mugs @ were extra at no cost. Or K-cups are twice as expensive, or save $8.99 on every $8.99 spent on this approach.

The downside is over K-cup: you have to clean up, dump the grounds and rinse out the pitcher and filter basket (no big deal). You brew one kind of coffee –so if you have two people and one wants decaf or french roast (no deal). It does take 4 1/2 minutes longer to get your coffee (some people will find this a deal breaker in the morning when heading to work).

Plus side: cheaper, far less heated plastic involved in the process than K-cup (google articles on estrogen affect and plastic), not prone to all the mechanical problems of the K-cup brewer (we get about 2 years out of ours before it clogs and one of the pump breaks, etc). You can make it cheaper by shopping sale price ground whereas K-cup tend to hold a single price (apparently the patent will expire soon and this should change.)

UPDATE: Over time my wife has converted over to drinking the non-K cup coffee from this machine. She likes the Starbuck Verano which takes only 2 tablespoons and a pinch to make two 8 oz mugs of cofee. This doubles the savings over K-cup for us.
Its really up to personal taste but still this is a cheaper option.
