4Sharpest Looking Coffee Maker EVER!
By David L. Vasser
Got mine at local BIG BOX store because it wasn’t on Amazon in RED at that time.

PROS: Well packed. Nicely finished, coming in 9 various colors. Mine is a very vibrant glossy red. It has a good concise manual that you’ll need to keep handy for several unique functions. This model has the clock you can set for programmed brewing at a selected time and also has the a two-hour shut off timer that counts down how much time is left before it does an auto shutdown. There is no way to disable the auto-shut off and it works whether the brew cycle is started manually or automatically. Unique useful functions include 3 variable brew strengths for regular, bold and gourmet strength brews, a special brew cycle setting to make small runs of 4 cups or less and there is a “CLEAN” cycle which they suggest you run monthly. None of these unique features are on the SWITCH model and are only on the one with the timer. The “pause & serve” function on mine works better than any I’ve had before with no drips at all. Apparently taking a que from Bill Gates’ Windows, to turn it off manually press and hold the START button for a moment. I usually make coffee manually, but I still appreciate the auto shut off function. If you don’t like the auto shut off (and some people don’t) the fully manual switch model with no clock stays on constantly till you shut it off, however the switch model lacks some of the other features like cleaning cycle, brew strength selection and the special 1-4 cup cycle on the programmable timer model.

CONS: My major gripe is that the Bella Dots Coffee Maker is described as having a ‘”Commercial style permanent filter” so I was expecting gold plated hard metal mesh, but the filter material on mine is sort of a flimsy synthetic plastic looking mesh instead, therefore I don’t see it lasting indefinitely like gold plated metal. This nylon-like mesh for the filter basket is the weak link on mine and the biggest mark-off because I don’t see how this plastic type filter could be as durable as a gold plated metal permanent filter. I’m expecting this flimsy mesh to eventually get holes in it since when I rinse it with water I can see it flexing back and forth. Second, this filter when used without augmenting it with a paper filter lets too much sentiment into the coffee pot. Third, the water reservoir level indicator is a fixed stair-step affair you can only see if you peer down into the reservoir, there is no external window. I’m 6-01 tall and I can’t see much of it at all unless I move the coffee maker to the edge of the counter, so the level indicator is essentially useless below the top 12 cup and 10 cup marks. This really isn’t an issue for me as I have a plastic pouring cup I use to put water into the maker. You need something spouted because the target area to pour in the fresh water is a challenge to hit because it is small. Fourth and last con, only after buying it did I learn Bella is a line made by Sensio, which is based in Canada and their support is also Canadian based. Getting replacement parts like a carafe or filter basket might not go as smoothly for USA users as it would with USA based support. On the other hand Canadian support might actually be better than USA support, I just don’t know yet. They do have a support phone and it is 1-866-832-4844.

TRIALS: I did the 2 cycles of clean water with no coffee before using it to make coffee as instructed. I then made 8 cups of coffee using “Master Chef” brand coffee which is a decent but cheap drip ground coffee that I use as my everyday brew. I used the bold (2 beans on the display) setting. There was far too much sentiment in the coffee so that it was a lot like campfire coffee, so the filter basket alone isn’t 100% satisfactory for me. On the next pot I added a paper basket filter inside the unit’s “commercial” permanent filter and it worked much better with no objectionable sediment that time. If you use a finer grind or grind your own then I’m pretty sure that the permanent filter basket alone will not be enough and you’ll need to use a paper filter inside the permanent one. The 8-12 cup size “MR. COFFEE” type basket type paper filters fit inside the permanent filter basket perfectly. I found the paper filter also makes the filter basket much easier to clean and I’d rather dump all the coffee grounds in the trash with the paper filter than have part of the grounds washed down the sink drain after each pot. Saving a penny by skipping the paper filter is something I’d do again only if I was out of paper filters and had no choice. I do not want to be scrubbing any on the Bella Dots permanent filter as it looks flimsy.

SUMMARY: The looks are spectacular making the Bella Dots the best looking coffee maker I’ve owned, it makes very tasty coffee in your choice of brew strengths relatively quickly and keeps it piping hot. This is a winner on paper and could have been one of the best home coffee makers ever and truly deserving of five stars, however the flimsy filter basket material worries me. It doesn’t look like it will be as durable as metal and it doesn’t filter as well as I expected either. I recommend it for the looks and functionality, but I think Black and Decker’s CM2020B coffee maker with a timer is a super value at less than half the cost of the Bella Dots. That B&D one has almost all the features except variable brew strength if you can live with the stark utilitarian B&D look.

With the Bella Dots you are paying extra for snazzy visual styling and it delivers 100% in the looks department being the best looking coffee maker I ever had, but that does not necessarily translate into value. I’m keeping the Bella Dots because it makes really, really outstanding coffee when you use the paper filter inside the permanent filter and it is super nice looking, but low confidence in long term durability of the filter material is nagging at me. I’m going to be careful with it and the carafe. I sort of doubt this Bella Dots will last 15 years like the old Black & Decker did, but I’ve been wrong before. I packed the old B&D one in the Bella box, so I’ve got a spare just in case! In spite of the cons the Bella Dots is a really good coffee maker.

5When you need a pot of coffee in style
By Kendall Giles
Watch Video Here: http://ift.tt/1HNBaJa Sometimes you need a pot of coffee, and so I wanted to take a look at the BELLA Dots Collection Programmable Coffee Maker.

In the box you get the coffee maker itself — note that they come in happy colors, so you can match your kitchen decor, or maybe even your iPhone. There is also a 12-cup glass carafe, a measuring spoon, and this is a wonderful idea — a permanent coffee filter, a removable filter basket, and an instruction manual.

The controls are fairly intuitive, though note that the Start button acts as power. You can select between three different coffee brewing strengths, and of course you can program the coffee maker to brew coffee at a future time, or right away.

The unit also as a deep-clean feature and an autoshutoff of the hotplate after 2 hours.

Making coffee is straightforward–fill reservoir with water, put the filter into the basket, put coffee into the filter, select your brewing strength, and push start.

If I had to complain about anything, I’d say that because it takes about 10 minutes to brew a full pot of coffee, I’d sure like a beep or something to let me know when it’s done.

That nitpick is counterbalanced though by the fact that after there about two cups of coffee have been brewed, you can pull the carafe out, pour yourself some coffee, and put the carafe back to finish brewing the rest of the pot.

That’s a winner in my book.

In the video review you can see the coffee maker and how to use it in more detail.

Thanks for reading and watching!

5A Gorgeous Addition To Your Kitchen In Many Color Choices …
By Sheryl Fechter
This is the first time I can say that I am glad my older coffee maker stopped working. Once I spied this Bella Beauty, I was practically sold on the spot. I purchased mine in the Red color although there are so many other choices to match any kitchen or decor. I purchased mine for an early Christmas gift for the family and so far, so great. This makes delicious ground coffee and works particularly great on beans that you grind yourself. I really appreciate the style of this maker, mine measures just about 13″ in height and 9.5″ across the front for a great looking rectangular shape. This coffee maker looks sharp!

There are some extra features with this coffee maker. It is programmable to set-up your coffee to brew 24 hours ahead of time, or the night before and awaken to a lovely pot brewed and ready for you. Also, you may adjust the brew strength to regular, gourmet or bold roast. Choosing the bold, which is my personal favorite, takes a bit more time, although the taste is certainly worth it. You may pour a cup while it is still brewing after there is about 2 – 3 cups in the carafe without any spillage onto the warming plate. There is an automatic stop while filling your cup so no leaks. Built in is a keep hot time of 2 hours. Along with the automatic shutoff, I will push the ‘start’ button again – after 2 hours sometimes – if the pot is still pretty full. There is included into the programmable buttons mentioned below, an automatic cleaning feature which can be used if you wish to sanitize your unit monthly.

The top of this stylish unit lifts up to fill with water towards the back. It has a clearly visible water level marker, in white, on the back also clearly showing how far to fill for the number of cups you prefer, up to 12. This also has a control for a 1 to 4 cup brewing cycle for a smaller pot of coffee. It houses a take out plastic filter holder to use with paper liners or the choice of the included permanent mesh-sided insert. Once the top metal lid is shut, nothing is in view but for the carafe with the color-matched handle. At the top front of the maker are all of your programming buttons, 6 in a horizontal row. Along with a small round, blue lit, digital clock and count-up timer, 0:00 to 2:00. This also displays your chosen roasting strength selection, in one, two, or three (the boldest) coffee bean shapes. The clock is only lit up while the unit is on the brewing cycle then shuts off (without added color) for the counting up 2 hours holding time. The bottom of the versatile housing unit has four tiny feet with rubber pads for a nonslip grip to your counter top.

I love this Bella Programmable Coffee Maker mainly because how it immediately caught my eye and reminded me of an old fashioned diner type unit. The coffee maker housing looks like metal with patterned dots set-in all over the outer sides; it is actually made of a durable, lightweight, and a metallic looking plastic. It is easy to wipe clean with a wet cloth. This is a great, shiny splash of color for your own kitchen and makes a lovely gift for anyone who really enjoys everything about coffee, and about style.

12/20/2013 – I will add an update if anything does go wrong with this Coffee Maker. So far, no complaints whatsoever.
11/20/2014 – No problems with coffee maker, used twice daily on average.
